In case you missed it, Sony’s got a thing for 3D with big plans to push the technology into your living room next year. While the first application will be applied to the flat screen TV, Sony’s obviously thinking about other displays judging by this tiny prototype set for reveal at Tokyo’s Digital Content EXP0 2009 on Thursday. The 13 x 27-cm device packs a stereoscopic, 24-bit color image measuring just 96 × 128 pixels viewable at 360-degrees without special glasses. If the prototype ever hits the assembly line then Sony envisions its commercial use in digital signage or medical imaging — or as a 3D photo frame, television, house for your virtual pet, or visualizer to assist with web shopping in the home. heiwa-ohashi pedestrian bridge proposal by suppose design office

this is suppose design offices’ proposal for a pedestrian bridge in hiroshima.

many rivers flow to the hiroshima delta, and the green areas there on the riversides

are one representative of the city’s post-war reconstruction. between the rivers

the peace memorial park and peace boulevard make up the center of hiroshima,

and the area is an irreplaceable and symbolic world heritage site.

in making plans for maintenance on one pedestrian bridge, before building the firm 

researched what role this bridge served during and after the war, and how it had been

thought of, they discussed at length what new role it should have apart from just

being a walkway.

after absorbing the wisdom of isamu noguchi, kenzou tange, and others who in

the past had been so strongly associated with this area, they decided that it should be

a ‘bridge of education.’

compared with the strong presence of the peace bridge they wanted to create a pedestrian

bridge with a weak presence (like a supporting role) and make it a bridge that elevates

the presence and allure of isamu noguchi’s peace bridge. by effectively using the designated

bridge site, they created this supporting role bridge with thin and light girders. by devising

unprecedented hybrid construction, they made a 30cm thick ‘bridge without presence’

a reality.

the thinness of the bridge opens up the view of the river, peace bridge, and the surrounding

peace memorial park; and the vibrations as people walk across and the feel of the wood

give a feeling of ‘crossing’ to pedestrians that cannot normally be found in the city.

the bridge of education is not just a means of crossing a river, but a place to think about

the river and the bridge and for transporting people and precious feelings.

the bridge was based around the popular string game cat’s cradle

the latest BLU animation was made at the fame festival in southern italy in cooperation with artist

david ellis. the animated graffiti took over a week to complete with the help of a number of assistants.

the two artist combined their respective styles to create the large scale motion paintings that occupies

an old ruins. the piece is designed to loop so that the film can be played back to back seamlessly.

be part of a damien hirst artwork at tate modern

tate modern, london is searching for identical twins willing to take part in a damien hirst artwork

for the pop life exhibition. throughout the exhibition, pairs of twins will sit in front of

two of damien hirst’s iconic spot paintings.

the tate are asking identical twins to participate for a number of shifts of four hours each

during the span of the exhibition: 1 october 2009 to 17 january 2010 (exhibition closed

24, 25 and 26 december,2009).

requirements

you must be identical twins, ideally of the same height and stature. the project brief

requires participants to present identical styles of hair and clothing during the performance.

successful participants will show a willingness to perform the role as specified by the artist.    

you must be aged 18 or over.

you will need to commit to a minimum of four shifts of four hours over the duration of

the exhibition.

tesla was schooled in gospic and karlovac, and studied technical imagesciences in

prague and graz. after completing his studies, he worked in the postal-telephone association,

on the installations of phone lines, and soon after the got the job in thomas edison’s

company in paris. once there he did some modifications on edison’s dynamo machines

which allowed him to work with the renowned scientist in america. tesla worked with

edison for a while, until one year later he opened his own laboratory.

tesla was famous for his achievements in the are of electrical engineering, machining and telecommunications. his best known inventions are transformer, wireless electrical energy

transfer, induction motor, remotely conducted boat. he worked a lot on the radio technology,

and one of his more important works was the elimination of radio-interference.

While the shuttle Endeavour is having a tough time getting off of the launch pad, the Apollo 11 moon mission should proceed as scheduled later this week. Some 40 years after Neil Armstrong and a host of behind-the-scenes workers at NASA made JFK’s vision a reality, WeChooseTheMoon.org is being launched to recreate the whole spectacle. Starting a full 90 minutes prior to the 40th anniversary (that’s 8:02AM on July 16th), the site will be fully operational, tracking the capsule’s route from Earth to the moon. Reportedly, visitors will be able to peek “animated recreations of key events from the four-day mission, including when Apollo 11 first orbits the moon and when the lunar module separates from the command module.” If you’re one of those who remembers “exactly where you were on that fateful day,” you should probably queue up a Google alert and bookmark your browser to relive the whole experience again.
