we first featured zero per zero’s subway maps back in 2007 when ji hwan kim and jin so
presented them at seoul design week. since then the korean designers have created
this heart-shaped diagram of the new york subway system, referencing milton glaser’s
iconic ‘I heart new york’ logo.

the beijing national stadium by herzog & de meuron
the new yorker architecture critic paul goldberger has posted his most recent article which lists his favourite
buildings of the past year. the list features many of the years high profile new structures and a few not so
well-known. designboom covered all but one of goldbergers favourites, that exception being the cathedral
of christ the light in oakland, california by skidmore, owings and merril. also on the list were two restorations,
the arts building at yale university and a synagogue in new york. the other odd man out was olufar elliassons
waterfall project in new york. the new york times critic nicolai ouroussoff also has a run down of the year in

erik nitsche for general dynamics
graphic designer, erik nitsche (1908-1998) had a prolific ~ 60 year career
working across the advertising, printing and publishing industries.
he is best known for his long working relationship with the engineering
company general dynamics.
nitsche was born in lausanne and studied at the collège classique of lausanne
and the kunstgewerbeschule in munich. in 1934 he emigrated to hollywood at
the age of 26, then moved to new york, before returning to switzerland (geneva)
in the early 1960s. from 1965 to 1980 he lived in paris, and returned to the US in 1996.
